Increases machining efficiency by 20% with Cimatron

In just over a decade, CNC machining specialist MARP Usinagem grew from a small startup equipped with a single machine tool into a business with a reputation for producing superior components for plastic injection molds.

Today, the company’s three-person team continues to provide precision CNC machining services with the reliability and efficiency its customers require. According to Director Paulo Lorandi — who founded MARP in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, in 2014 — the company’s exceptional products are what help set it apart from the competition.

“Our flagship service is CNC machining, and our greatest source of pride is the quality of delivery,” Lorandi said. “We can produce perfect final products directly from the machine without the need for rework or manual finishing.”

Choosing Cimatron

After implementing Cimatron in 2024, MARP quickly saw the benefit of working with a CAD/CAM environment that connects design and manufacturing workflows.

The company has achieved a 20% increase in productivity by taking advantage of CAD/CAM integration, increased automation, and tools for optimized CNC programming.

“Working within the same environment for CAD and CAM helps simplify tasks, reduce handoff issues, and improve communication between design and manufacturing,” Lorandi said. “Using the same language and the same software from beginning to end simply makes everything easier.”

Improving machine efficiency and process consistency was especially important as the company faced market instability.

“Before Cimatron, we were looking for ways to improve machining accuracy, reduce cycle times, and support more efficient CNC programming,” Lorandi said. “With customer demand already strong, our goal was to increase efficiency, consistency, and confidence in the work we were already doing.”

In addition to improving the flow of information from design through CNC programming and production, Cimatron helps Lorandi and his team simplify the development of complex geometries, respond with improved agility when changes are required, and reduce errors that can lead to rework.

Smarter programming and production

Cimatron empowers the team at MARP to make more informed decisions on the shop floor by providing an accurate visual representation of the material that remains after roughing operations are completed.

“The visual assistance Cimatron provides the operator makes it much easier to safely and efficiently remove the remaining material,” Lorandi said. “Before we had this capability, operators had to mentally track where the tool had already passed. Understanding where material needs to be removed is especially helpful for more challenging operations, like machining corners.”

Cimatron also automatically recognizes and updates the stock model to illustrate which areas have already been machined, making it easy for the team at MARP to rotate parts into varied positions on the machine tool without sacrificing productivity.

Using Cimatron’s zero-point capabilities helps operators remain oriented throughout the machining process, improving confidence and supporting safer, more reliable decision-making on the shop floor.

“This provides the operator with a clear understanding of what has already been completed and what still needs to be removed,” Lorandi said. “It helps maintain machining reference points, reduces uncertainty, and supports a more controlled process.”

Cimatron’s intelligent drilling capabilities, which can be used to quickly detect, group, and sequence multiple holes, have also helped the company increase production efficiency. Hole detection capabilities help the company streamline programming, while the software’s intelligent machining functions make it easy to reuse proven toolpaths across different projects without starting from scratch.

“Cimatron machining strategies improve efficiency by optimizing toolpaths,” Lorandi said. “For example, the software helps us avoid air cutting to reduce cycle times and maintain a constant stepover for optimal material removal, consistent tool load, and high-quality surface finish.”

Hole recognition, remaining material tracking, automated templates, and intelligent machining strategies have all helped the company improve quality and precision while reducing cycle times.
